Halloween is just around the corner which means its time for those witchy outfits to take a front row in your wardrobe. From the biggest ever launch of Deadpool and Wolverine to a total solar eclipse, 2024 is full of pop-culture references for inspiring your Halloween costumes.
In this blog, we will share the most stylish and sustainable outfit ideas for the scary season that you can probably pull together at home or simply order online. Let’s get started!
Deadpool & Wolverine
No one can not love the dynamic duo of Deadpool & Wolverine now that we’ve seen them together in action! Of course, the iconic red jumpsuit of Deadpool is going to be the hit of this year’s Halloween. Luckily, you can easily make this costume at home in a matter of 2-3 hours.
Start with getting a red full-body spandex suit and alter it according to your body measurements. Then, draw or paint the Deadpool logo on the chest using a fabric paint or marker (if you are bad at drawing, just ask one of your artistic friends to help). Create and attach pouches to the belt and add a utility belt with fake tools. Buy or rent a Deadpool mask and finally, pair the outfit with red boots or if you have a pair of black boots, paint them red.
However, not everyone wants to go hardcore on Halloween (I, being one of them). In that case, Deadpool themed leggings or a cute Wolverine inspired yellow dress can be good options. The best part is that with just some twerks and adjustments, you can repurpose these outfits for later use as well. Talk about sustainable fashion, eh?
Young Queen Charlotte
The popular Netflix series showcasing the elegance of corsets has been on everyone’s mind since its beginning in 2020. From the Queen’s iconic hairstyles to Kate Sharma’s half corsets, each episode of the series screams “Halloween inspiration”.
My personal favourite is Young Queen’s Charlotte’s wedding dress. To pull this outfit, you simply need an ankle length underskirt petticoat, Victorian ball gown, satin gloves, vintage tiara, earring and necklace set, and a long-hooded cloak- and now that I think of it, it may not be that simple.
Luckily, you can find all of these items at a secondhand clothing or thrifted clothing store. As you are going to be dressed in many many layers, it’s a good idea to get a cotton petticoat that can keep you comfy for longer.
If you are worried about your outfit looking dull or worn-out, just use a cotton lint remover like BIORESTORE Re-Tergent to revive its vibrancy. As long as the fabric is made of at least 70% cotton, BIORESTORE cotton will bring back its original glory in only one home laundry wash.
Kim Yeji
For those who want a simple yet badass Halloween outfit, there is no better option that dressing up as Kim Yeji – the most Viral shooter at Olympics, 2024. All you need is a white cap, a Fila jacket, and slim tracksuit bottoms that you can probably find in your wardrobe. And don’t forget attaching a little elephant doll to your hip for finalising the outfit.
If there is anything missing from the outfit like the cap or the Fila jacket, don’t hesitate from raiding wardrobes of your friends’ and family and I am sure that you will find everything you need without spending even a single penny. Now, that’s an outfit idea that I would love to try!
Wednesday Addams
Another Netflix series featuring the character “Wednesday Addams” who is dark-minded and full of woe. Her style is a perfect mix of stylish and creepy making it a great option for those looking to truly embrace the spirit of the spooky season.
The main piece of the costume is a classic black dress with a white collar. You can use any black dress and sew a white collar on it. A knee-length or slightly longer dress works best to replicate her unforgettable look on the show. Pair the dress with black opaque tights and flat black shoes.
PRO TIP: Black fabrics are notorious for attracting excessive lint and fabric pilling. If your costume is supposed to look old, tatty and worn-out (aka Frankenstein) maybe give this a miss, BUT if your Vampire look should be that of the King of Darkness and King Cool, then give BIORESTORE cotton lint remover a try to bring back the black!
To complete the gothic look of Wednesday, style your hair in two long braids with middle hair partition. And if your hair isn’t dark naturally, consider using a black hair spray or just get a wig. For an additional fun touch, carry a replica of her famous book in your hand or get some gothic jewelry like black chokers or rings. This will make your outfit feel more sharp and edgy.
Harley Quin and the Joker
One of the classic duo costumes that never fails! And with the new movie, Joker: Folie á Deux premiering right before Halloween, it is for sure, going to be a top couples costume.
Now, keep in mind that both of these looks depend more on your makeup than what you are wearing. For starters, you need to paint your face white, add black around the eyes, and then add red around the lips for an exaggerated grin to be the Joker.
For the outfit, pair a red and blue bomber jacket with matching short shorts, fishnet tights, and boots. If you have that “Daddy’s Lil Monster” shirt, that’s great, otherwise, I am sure at least one of your friends must be a die-hard Harley Quin fan and already have this shirt hanging in their wardrobe.
What else?
When it comes to Halloween, there is no set of rules for limiting your creativity. Whether you want to recreate your favourite scene from a movie or portray a historical character- nothing is off limits.
However, if you want to embrace sustainable fashion practices, it’s best to use secondhand or thrifted clothing or repurpose worn-out outfits from your wardrobe instead of purchasing brandnew garments that you are probably going to wear only once in your lifetime. This is not only ecofriendly, but also much more reasonable and will help you save a lot of your hard-earned money.
Happy Halloween!
